Product Information
GELCOAT BLACK 3 KG
Gelcoat provides a protective and finished surface for fiber-reinforced plastic products. It is a high-quality, pre-accelerated polyester-based gelcoat with good chemical and heat resistance. It can be used with both vinyl ester and polyester resins. It is applied to the mold or onto the finished product before laminating and cured with peroxide.
The correct application thickness and proper curing of gelcoat are essential for a durable and aesthetically pleasing result. It is typically applied with a brush or spray gun at a layer thickness of about 0.4–0.6 mm. A layer that is too thin may crack, while one that is too thick may shrink or sag.
Resin component requires 1–2% MEK-50 hardener (methyl ethyl ketone peroxide).
Gel time with 1.5% hardener (20 °C): 6–21 min
3 kg of resin component requires 30–60 g of MEK- 50 hardener.
Safety
Before handling topcoat, ALWAYS ensure good ventilation and skin protection. Wear a long-sleeved shirt and disposable gloves resistant to topcoat (e.g., nitrile rubber). Uncured epoxy resin is highly sensitizing to the skin.
